Downloading and Installing Family Ark on Android
- On your phone, open the download link in your browser (Chrome, by default) and tap to download the
.apkfile. It’ll save to your Downloads folder. - Tap the downloaded file, either from the browser’s download notification or from your Files app.
- Android will likely block the install the first time and show a prompt like “For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source.” Tap Settings on that prompt, then turn on Allow from this source for your browser (or Files app, whichever triggered it).
- Go back and tap the APK file again. You’ll see an install confirmation screen listing what permissions the app requests — tap Install.
- Google Play Protect may scan the file and show a warning since it’s outside the Play Store; tap Install anyway (or More details → Install anyway) if it appears.
- Once installed, tap Open, or find Family Ark in your app drawer.
A couple of things worth adding as notes on the page itself: the “allow from this source” permission is per-app in modern Android (not a single global toggle like older versions), so users only have to do that step once for whichever app they used to open the file, not system-wide. And it’s worth being upfront that this Play Protect warning is expected for any app distributed outside the Play Store, not a sign anything’s wrong — otherwise it can read as alarming for a document-vault app specifically.
